Two of the new locomotives for Tasmania are seen in the Rocklea Works compound of English Electric in December 1972. Soon to be Z class locomotives, no. Z3 and no, Z4 are undergoing final checks before delivery

The construction of locomotives that were fitted with the 12CSVT Diesel engine was divided between three sites, two in the UK and one in Australia. During the period of construction between 1959 and 1976, the ownership of the company changed and hence these lists show 5 different location codes, which are identified below

EEVF English Electric, Vulcan Foundry, Newton le Willows, Merseyside.
EERSH English Electric, Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn, Darlington Works, County Durham.
EEAR English Electric Australia, Rocklea Works, Brisbane, Queensland.
