Whether it’s simply a nostalgic journey back to a bygone age or a discovery of the sights and sounds for the very first time of a steam train, Peak Rail welcomes you in 2011 to experience the thrill of steam on our preserved railway whilst travelling through the delightful Derbyshire countryside.

The line forms part of the old Midland Railway’s line between Manchester Central and London St Pancras which was closed in 1968. A huge milestone will be achieved in July 2011, when we will celebrate the dedicated hard toil of past and present staff and volunteers by launching the first working of a passenger train into Matlock station since the lines closure.

Peak Rail services operate throughout the year and are mostly steam hauled although the railway does operate diesel hauled services on specific dates. All trains have an on-board buffet coach and a specially adapted coach for wheelchair accommodation.

The railway is home to an extensive collection of steam and diesel locomotives, historic carriages, wagons and other railway memorabilia, which is either owned by the railway, private individuals or one of our groups.
