The railway was part of a 10km stretch of the end of Great Eastern, latterly LNER and London Central Line that runs through beautiful Essex Countryside. After closure in 1994, the line was preserved for use as a heritage railway. A service ran from 2004 till 2007, but it was decided that we would focus on upgrading the infrastructure to improve safety, ensure the long term future of the line, and to enable locomotives to once again operate

Directions by Road From the M11 Motorway

Leave the M11 Motorway at Junction 7 and take the A414 towards Chelmsford and North Weald. Follow the A414 for approximately 5 miles, crossing two roundabouts. At the third roundabout (BP garage on left) take the third exit towards Ongar. The Epping Ongar Railway is located approximately 400 yards on the right hand side.

Directions by Public Transport The 501 bus runs a two hourly service between Harlow and Romford, passing through Epping, North Weald and Ongar. For more details, click here.

Vintage Bus Connections
On special event days a vintage bus will operate between London Underground Central Line's Epping station and North Weald to coincide with the train timetable.
